The New York Renaissance Faire

Updated: Aug 25, 2023

On September 25, 2022, I visited the New York Renaissance Faire in Tuxedo, New York. This is my second visit to this event, and I had a fun experience overall.

When I entered the faire, there was a long line to get through the entrance. Normally I would be concerned if I saw a long line before entering a faire or amusement park, but luckily the line moved quickly, and it didn’t seem overly crowded once I was inside.

The first part of the faire we visited was a show with someone playing the bagpipes. This was fun to watch since I enjoy listening to Renaissance music. Another major attraction we visited was a dungeon museum which had some disturbing but fascinating props to look at.

Although we didn’t do these attractions this year, something else we enjoy doing are throwing knifes, playing some archery, and seeing a show with a hawk that flies really close to the audience.

In addition, another show we enjoyed was a jousting show since we enjoy watching people dressed as knights getting knocked off horses. One special note if you plan on seeing this show is make sure that you get there at least a half an hour before it starts since the places to sit get filled up very quickly.

Finally, we loved visiting many booths and looking at all their merchandise. One particular booth we loved the most was a booth that creates coins and necklaces, and we got to watch them create both of them with a heavy weight.

As much as I loved this faire, there are a few things I would change about this event. First, I wish that there were more healthy options for food and drinks. During my 2021 visit, we couldn’t find any meals that we wanted to eat for lunch, so instead for this year, we created our own sandwiches and ate it outside before entering. There are lots of great options for foods, but my group did not want to eat any junk food once we were inside.

My other criticism is the bathrooms at this faire. There are two places where guests could use a restroom in the faire, one in the parking lot, and many porta potties scattered randomly throughout the faire. My problem isn’t that there is a lack of places to go, but I wish the event had less porta potties and more bathrooms since they all had long lines, and no one likes using porta potties.

Nevertheless, the New York Renaissance Faire is a great event I look forward to visiting each fall. From their great staff members, shows, games, and booths to visit, this event has plenty to offer to the entire family. I recommend taking a two or three hour visit if you are in Tuxedo, New York during the fall.
