The Morris Museum

11 November 2023

Morristown, NJ

The Morris Museum has a large collection varying from fossils, mineral displays, The Guinness Collection (musical instrument and automata), some rotating exhibits, and more.

The Guinness Collection is by far my favorite for the sheer amount of automata and musical instruments on display. During the year, some of the exhibits are rotated and one can even view more of the collection by going to the basement floor. There, one can view the sheer enormity of the collection through the glass and understand why they choose to rotate instead of keeping them all on display at once. A few other exhibits that can be found on the first and second floor include an interactive miniature train zone, modern art, dinosaurs and fossils, and gem/minerals.

At certain times of the day, there are tour guides in the Guinness exhibit that will even play some of the instruments and automata available. There is a station within the exhibit where a tour guide explains the origins of the item and how it functions to create music.

In the small gift shop, you can even buy small music box machines to create your own melodies, similar to how the presentation describes music rolls being made. Overall, a nice place to visit that has many varying exhibits to meet everyone's taste.
