The Metropolitan Museum of Art

14 January 2024

New York, New York

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is an iconic museum of New York. There are so many exhibits to see that it is impossible to view everything in one day alone. We hope to visit later this season to view some of the other exhibits. During this visit, we managed to view the exhibits of Greek and Roman Art, Egyptian Art, Asian Art, Musical Instruments, and Arms and Armor.

The Roman and Greek wing had an enormous selection of sculptures and trinkets like jewelry, pottery, and more. It was incredible to see how lifelike the sculptures were. Afterwards, we went into the Egyptian Art wing and found that the Temple of Dendur was a functioning temple that was transported to the United States as a gift in 1967 to Lyndon B. Johnson.

The Musical Instruments exhibit is a large section of the museum that is made of historical and world instruments. One of my favorite instruments of the exhibit is an original pianoforte built by Cristofori Bartolomeo (Cristofori Bartolomeo is the inventor of the modern piano). Other instruments include sitars, kotos, gamelon instruments, and more.

The Asian Art exhibit recreated a Chinese moon viewing garden that you can walk through. Other parts of the Asian Art exhibit included various scrolls, kimonos, and artwork from various time periods.

The Arms and Armor exhibit had a large collection of armory and weapons from different cultures and time periods. There were swords and horse armor from Eastern and Western cultures.

A fantastic place to visit, but you will definitely need more than a day to see everything!
