Jockey Hollow Bar & Kitchen

11 November 2023

Morristown, NJ

We had been thinking about trying this restaurant for a while. It is one of the iconic places to visit while in Morristown because it is situated in a historic landmark, the Vail Mansion. We visited the Morris Museum earlier that day and were lucky enough to get a reservation in one of its iconic dining rooms. We were also lucky that there was a small public parking lot directly below the restaurant.

We happened to choose possibly the coldest evening in November to dine there, but it was an overall nice experience. There is nice theming in the restaurant and a nice ambience. The food was presented well and tasted great. As seen in the photos, we tried a variety of foods that evening, and had some hot tea to warm us up too. The portions are not large, but can be shared with two people if you want to try multiple dishes. However, the dessert is deceiving because it filled us up very quickly despite not seeming large.

It was a nice evening and visiting this restaurant was fascinating because of its history. Who would have known that the first president of AT&T, Theodore Vail, built this mansion to be his own family museum and residence? Sadly, two years after its completion, Vail passed away, and he never experienced actually living in it.
