The Flash: Vertical Velocity is a new for 2025 roller coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure.
This roller coaster was originally supposed to open in 2024, but it was delayed a year.
As a result, I have been watching this roller coaster being constructed for a long time, and I have sent many pictures to RDCB which can be viewed here.
I rode Flash: Vertical Velocity on March 30th, 2025, and it was constructed by the roller coaster company named Vekoma.
This company has recently constructed Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Tron: Lightcycle Run at Walt Disney World, which are two roller coasters that I love, and they have also constructed many new roller coasters in Europe that have received a lot of attention. Thus, I was very eager to ride Flash.
Flash: Vertical Velocity feels like the first new generation Vekoma to be constructed in the United States outside of Walt Disney World, and overall, I enjoyed this new roller coaster.
Between 1997 to 2007, Six Flags Great Adventure had two dueling launched shuttle coasters named Batman and Robin: The Chiller. I only rode the Robin side once when I was a little kid because these roller coasters were rarely open due to numerous mechanical problems. The Flash: Vertical Velocity feels like the spiritual successor of Batman and Robin: The Chiller because it is a launching shuttle coaster, and it has a very similar zero- G roll.
After boarding the train, the first part of the ride consists of three swing launches, and then the riders go into a large zero-G stall.
I have experienced zero-G stalls on other world-class roller coasters such as Jersey Devil Coaster, Velocicoaster, Wildcat’s Revenge, and Iron Gwazi, and Flash: Vertical Velocity has my favorite stall because of how sustained it is.
After the zero-G stall, the train launches a fourth time into two airtime hills, and a fifth time into a zero-G roll nicknamed “The Chiller roll.” This name was created because of how similar it is to the former zero-G roll on Batman and Robin: The Chiller. When exiting the zero-G roll, the train goes up a spike, and then we experience the entire ride again backwards.
All in all, Flash: Vertical Velocity is a great supporting roller coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure, and the roller coaster manufacturer Vekoma has a bright future ahead for them.
