40° at Six Flags Great Adventure in March? No problem!

On March 23rd, 2024, I took my first visit to Six Flags Great Adventure for the 2024 season. I went to the park mainly because it had been several months since I have ridden any coasters, and I was hoping to see some progress with the new Flash: Vertical Velocity Coaster that was under construction.

This was the second weekend the park was open for the 2024 season, and I have heard that many of the rides weren't open in the weekend prior. However, before entering the park, the park president named Brian Bacica greeted me and assured that most of their signature attractions including Kingda Ka and El Toro were going to be open. This was a big surprise to me because I didn't expect them to be open on a chilly and windy day.

Since I didn't see Kingda Ka and El Toro operating from the parking lot, I walked to Nitro and rode in the front row for the first ride of the day. I then took a ride on Jersey Devil Coaster, Lil' Devil Coaster, and the Dark Knight since they had short lines, and they were open.

After those four coasters, I saw Kingda Ka operating so I walked to the other side of the park. By the time I arrived, Kingda Ka wasn't fully ready to open, so I rode Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom three consecutive times.

My rides on Kingda Ka after Zumanjaro were interesting because the second time I tried riding, I had to be evaluated from the coaster because of a tire problem on the launch track. After twenty minutes of waiting in the station while speaking to a roller coaster enthusiast I have seen online, I rode Kingda Ka in the front and middle rows which were fantastic.

I ended my day at Six Flags with three smooth rides on El Toro, and I took more construction photos of the new Flash Coaster.

Overall, I had a great visit because the crowds were low, and Great Adventure did an excellent job keeping their rides open despite the cold weather.
